Colin Jones exhibited widely in his career, including in prestigious galleries and competitions. In the early 1960s, he was part of a landmark exhibition of contemporary Welsh art that toured Clare College, Cambridge; St Hilda’s, Oxford; and Stoke College of Art. He exhibited alongside notable artists such as Josef Herman, Kyffin Williams, Ceri Richards, and Alfred Janes. His exhibited works included Sleep, For Being Old, Colliers Emerging, and The Iron Bridge.

He also participated in the John Moores Exhibition in Liverpool in 1961, winning a prize and having his work acquired by the Walker Gallery. That year’s event included artists like Sandra Blow, R.B. Kitaj, and David Hockney. Colin Jones’s entry, O Flaen y Cyrddau Maw, placed him in distinguished company and positioned him as a key Welsh representative.

Jones’s solo exhibition at the Dillwyn Gallery (later the Attic Gallery) in Swansea in 1965 was well received. Critic John Ingamells noted his ability to merge fluent draftsmanship with expressive painting. The Glynn Vivian Gallery acquired two works from this show, including Funeral, Merthyr, a standout piece from his later period.

He was a regular contributor to major Welsh art platforms: the National Eisteddfod (1956, 1958, 1960), the South Wales Group (1950–1963), and the Contemporary Arts Society for Wales (1958–1963). After his death, a retrospective was held at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre, with exhibitions of his French drawings at the National Museum of Wales and at the National Eisteddfod in Barry.
